Mt Chester NW couloir. April 10, 2011
We headed out of town at around 7:30 am just to lose an hour waiting for a crashed semi on the highway. We end up making it to the Chester Lake parking at 11 am. At this point, we just wanted to hike there and have a look not hoping anything more. After a short 45 hike, here we are at the bottom of this impressive couloir...

It looks way gnarlier than I though...

Just been out on the snowmobile into the mountains around Fernie. It has snowed nearly 1 meter in the last 24 hours with no sign of letting up. Today was almost too deep, sure glad to have made it out of the backcountry as it continues to nuke down!
Snowmobiling was the only way to get out and enjoy the powder as once again RCR was completely shut down and not able to handle the snow.. For most of the day no lifts were loading, yet $90 lift tickets were still avaialble....

“The story of Red Mountain Resort... In short, it’s about an avid group of skiers who drew from their own community’s resources and used good old-fashioned initiative and elbow grease to forge a new way of life.” - Red Mountain Resort

Last week spring hit Telkwa, I can see water in the river, Sam was in his hammock with Orion, The girl dogs have gone into heat, and it really came down in the mountains. Maybe we didn't get 7 feet in 6 days but it was still pretty damn sick.

Well, I’ve only touched a Southern corner of Montana, one
time. Crazy, for a person whom loves
trout fishing and alpine skiing! You
bet. I was traveling on a spring hiking
trip with my wife from Yellowstone, headed West on US 20, back towards Idaho. My initial, short lived adventure through
this awesome state of Montana left me wanting to see and do more.
We have had an amazing winter here at Island Lake Catskiing. Our consolidated base in the alpine is over 5 metres or 16 feet. Our guides are saying the best snow year in the last 10 years!! Because of all the snow we have decided to extend the season. We will run an extra tour April 3-6 and run dayskiing April 3-7. Call the office for details 1-888-422-8754.
Its time you experienced catskiing in BC

Winter turned to Spring today but it officially happened for me on Friday. That was my first day out skiing in the sun and warm air. Spring brings a whole new focus and style to skiing that makes it my favourite time to slide on snow. The long days are all about cold mornings and hot afternoons. The streets in town melt and grass goes green but we chase the pow as it lingers up high and on progressively north and steeper faces.
